Dra. Amanda Blackwell, EdD, SLPD, CCC-SLP

La Dra. Amanda Blackwell es una apasionada de la comunicación en todas sus formas. Ha tenido la oportunidad de aprender de una gran diversidad de personas de diferentes contextos culturales, ya que ha vivido y trabajado de tiempo completo como terapeuta del habla y lenguaje bilingüe (inglés/español) en Guatemala durante los últimos 12 años. Actualmente es profesora adjunta de autismo y Comunicación Aumentativa y Alternativa (CAA) en los programas de maestría y doctorado en terapia del habla y lenguaje de Minot State University en Minot, Dakota del Norte (Estados Unidos), Moravian University en Pennsylvania (EEUU) y University of Central Missouri (EEUU). Supervisa las investigaciones de estudiantes de doctorado en patología del habla y lenguaje en el MGH Institute of Health Professions en Boston, Massachusetts, y en Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions en Provo, Utah.

Actualmente Amanda participa en proyectos internacionales de investigación sobre CAA, el estilo gestáltico del lenguaje, y musicoterapia en autismo junto a colegas en Estados Unidos, Ecuador, Sri Lanka y Sudáfrica. Cofundó la asociación profesional oficial de terapeutas del habla en Guatemala, que ofrece numerosas oportunidades de educación continua a más de 70 miembros. Actualmente dirige el departamento de terapia del lenguaje de la Asociación Guatemalteca de Síndrome de Down (Tebow Down Guatemala) en sus centros ubicados en cuatro ciudades del país.

Amanda disfruta viajar con frecuencia a distintos países del mundo para colaborar con profesionales en presentaciones, congresos y procesos de identificación del autismo.

  • Certificación avanzada (Research Reliable) en la prueba Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule - ADOS-2 de la Universidad de Minnesota (la única en México/Centro América) 
  • Certificado de aptitud clínica en patología del lenguaje y habla, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), desde el 2011  
  • Miembro del comité ad hoc de ASHA-PAHO para Ecuador 2020-2022  
  • Patóloga de lenguaje y habla licenciada, Estados de Texas, California, Washington, y New Mexico
  • Certificada para hacer evaluaciones con la prueba Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule y ADI-R
  • Maestra licenciada de educación primaria hasta el sexto grado, Estado de Texas, desde el 2009
  • Ganadora del reconocimiento de educación continua (ACE) de parte de la junta directiva de educación continua, (ASHA) 2018-2020 por haber juntado más de 70 horas de educación continua
  • Certificada en More Than Words® The Hanen Program® para padres de niños autistas
  • Certificada en PEERS® para adultos jóvenes autistas
  • Especialista en habilitación auditiva pediátrica, concedido después de completar el programa de PAH en la Universidad de Texas en Dallas en el 2010
